Student membership

For students and those seeking work in museums and galleries
Developing your career
As someone studying towards a career in museums, we can help you achieve your goals. The largest museum and gallery organisation in the UK, we represent the profession as a whole. And with over 700 student members, we know what’s important to you.

Keeping you informed
Museums Journal, our monthly magazine, is the sector’s most authoritative publication, ensuring you keep in touch with the latest news, reviews and analysis. You also receive Museum Practice content - putting practical advice on a range of museum activities at your fingertips - a crucial resource for students.

My MA membership has been key to my professional development and progression since I joined as a student ten years ago. I'd recommend membership to everyone working in museums, at any time in their career."
Katy Archer AMA, director of NCCL, Galleries of Justice Museum

Helping your career
We offer the best jobs in the sector online, in Museums Journal, and in regular email and Twitter updates. Reading our publications is vital for a broad understanding of the sector, helping you throughout your course and in preparation for those all-important job interviews.

Improving your skills
We run an extensive programme of training events and conferences, as well as our professional development schemes. These events are available to student members at a greatly reduced rate and will help increase your knowledge and skills, as well as providing important networking opportunities.

Achieving better standards
We campaign vigorously on behalf of the museum profession to government and other strategic bodies. We also set ethical standards for the profession, in consultation with our members, and provide ethical guidance.

Awareness of ethical matters and access to our reports will help develop your understanding of the sector.
