Griffiths welcomes MLA's £250,000 for apprenticeships
Caitlin Griffiths, the MA's head of professional issues, has welcomed the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council's funding of creative apprenticeships designed to open up entry routes into museum careers…
Over the next two years the MLA is offering £5,000 for each year of an apprentice's employment at MLA-accredited museums that are based in England and willing to support a new recruit with a structured training package.
Griffiths said: "Opening up entry routes has been a real priority for the Museums Association, so we are very pleased that creative apprenticeships are playing a part in making this happen.
"It is great news that the MLA has found the money to support 50 apprenticeships and we would hope that museums will be able to find funding to support more individuals to enter the sector in this way.
"We are also hopeful that, as creative apprenticeships are rolled out they will be opened up to an increasingly wide variety of museum roles."
Museums are being invited to apply to participate in the scheme. The deadline for the first round of applications is 17 July 2009, with the outcome of applications expected to be early August 2009.
